The Padres have yet to play a game in Petco Park this spring, but there will be baseball at San Diego’s downtown ballpark starting Monday.
Grossmont Hills League rivals — No. 3-ranked Granite Hills and Grossmont — will be the first game of three days of high school baseball doubleheaders at Petco Park. First pitch each day is 4 p.m.
Monday’s second game features No. 1 St. Augustine against Madison in a key Western League game at 7pm.
“These are big games for the kids, but they’re also league games,” said St. Augustine coach Craig da Luz. “So you kind of have to balance things. There will be some nerves, so you need to take that into account.
“And you’d like to get as many kids into the game as possible, but it’s also a league game, an important game against a good team. And I think that goes for every team that will play at Petco.”
There are nearly 20 players with college commitments playing over the three days.
The games are run as a fund-raiser for the schools.
Teams purchase 400 tickets from the Padres at $19 each with a suggested resale price to followers of $20.
A ticket to the high school games also includes a Padres-game ticket.
