CIF Football Review-Preview Nov. 10,11-2022

 CIF PLAYOFFS : FOOTBALL

November 10th,11th, 2022

OPEN:

Thursday November 10th starts the Semi-Finals for the OPEN Division. #1 seed Carlsbad (9-1) hosts #4 Poway (10-0). The victor earns a match-up between City Conference and SDUSD rivals #2 Lincoln (9-1) vs #3 Madison (9-1). The Friday November 11th Lincoln/Madison matchup is a rematch of the Western League Championship played on Oct. 28th with the Hornets coming out with a 24-12 victory. Gear up for another defensive battle.

Division I:

#9 St. Augustine (4-7) will travel to #1 Mission Hills (7-3) after defeating #8 Eastlake 13-6. MH had a 1st round BYE.

#2 seed Cathedral Catholic (5-5) comes off their BYE to host #7 Torrey Pines (4-7) who defeated Rancho Bernardo 24-0 in the first round.

Division II:

#8 La Jolla (6-5) took down #9 Santa Fe Christian in a very entertaining match up 28-22. With the win, The Vikings will travel to #1 Granite Hills (8-2) in the quarterfinals.

#5 Mira Mesa (8-3) controlled their game all night in beating #12 Otay Ranch 38-21. That win earns the Marauders an Eastern League rematch from week 9 game against the #4 seed Christain Patriots (6-4, 4-0). Christian grinded out a 21-20 victory versus Mira Mesa to earn their way to a league championship.

Division III:

#8 Rancho Buena Vista (6-5) took down the mighty #9 Santana Sultans 49-14 to advance to play #1 University City (8-2) whom had a 1st round BYE. Watch for the offenses to put on a show.

#10 Morse “upset” #7 El Capitan 52-28 in a game that was back and forth until the Tigers took over and dominated the 4th quarter. Morse (7-4) will now travel to play the #2 seed Pt. Loma Pointers (8-2) whom had a 1st round BYE. These two City League teams played in week 9 at Pt. Loma with the Pointers having their way in a 42-12 victory.

Division IV:

#5 Mission Bay (7-4) took down the Wolverines from Westview 24-12 to advance into the quarterfinals to play #4 seed Montgomery (8-2). The Bucs and Aztecs played earlier in the season with Montgomery out hitting Mission Bay in a 9-6 win.

#3 seed Coronado (7-3) enjoyed a first round BYE and will take on #11 Chula Vista (7-4) who upset #6 Calexico in a tough road game 35-27.

Division V:

With Hoover losing to Mar Vista 62-34 and Clairemont losing to El Cajon Valley 21-14, #1 seed Crawford Colts are the lone City Conference /SDUSD team alive in D-V. Crawford will take on #8 Castle Park who defeated #9 Soutwest-El Centro 49-32. The Colts, who were 9-1 in the regular season are eyeing a CIF Championship while averaging 32 points a game and outscoring their opponents by 200. On the flipside, Castle Park is averaging 22 points game with a -50 for/against on the season.
