Lincoln kicker Felix Radilla Benavidez

“…With time expiring on the last play of regulation in last week’s semifinal showdown against Helix, Radilla Benavidez booted a 36-yard field goal to send the game into overtime. Lincoln eventually prevailed in double OT, 45-38.

Thirty-six yards isn’t exactly long distance, even by high school standards.

What made Radilla Benavidez’s feat so compelling was that it came in his first football game ever. At any level.

“I’m still in shock,” said Lincoln coach David Dunn. “You couldn’t script this any better. The kid’s got some swag.”
